Before you start driving for ride-hailing platforms, you must obtain a TDVL or PDVL. This licence certifies that you have completed the required training and have the expertise to provide safe and dependable service to your passengers. Both licences must be renewed every 6 years, and drivers are required to attend a refresher course as part of the renewal process.
Let’s walk through the step-by-step process of obtaining your PDVL/TDVL!
- Be a Singaporean
- Between 30 to 75 years old
- Hold a valid Class 3 or 3A Singapore driving licence with minimum 1 year driving experience
- Must have at least a GCE “O” or “N, at least a D7 grade in English or a Level 3 pass in Workplace Literacy (WPL) programme for Listening, Reading and Speaking
- Have a clean criminal record
- Have up-to-date MediSave contributions (if you are self-employed)*

It will take 10 to 15 working days processing time to receive your ATC letter, if your documents are in order:
- Apply your application online via GoBusiness with an application fee of $40 (non-refundable) to LTA. You will need to upload and submit these these documents along with your application:
- NRIC
- Driving Licence
- GCE N/O Level OR Level 3 WPL Programme (Scanned physical or digital copy)
- Passport Size Photo (Against white background)
Upon receiving your ATC letter, you must undergo a complete medical check-up and chest x-ray examination by any Singapore-registered clinic or hospital, or SATA Diagnostic Centres.
Alongside, the LTA Medical Examination Form must be completed and certified by a registered medical practitioner, while a radiologist must sign your chest x-ray report.
There may be complimentary or subsidised rates for medical check-up offered by course training providers, such as ComfortDelgro, NTUC LearningHub or Singapore Taxi Academy. Please check directly with these providers for more information.

Your PDVL training course fee is claimable from SkillsFuture. Check your credit amount via SkillsFuture Portal here.
After completing and passing your TDVL/PDVL course, you will receive a Temporary Vocational Licence on the same day after passing the test, and you can start to sign-up on various ride-hailing platforms, such as Grab, GoJek, Tada & Ryde.
Your Digital LTA Vocational Licence will be updated on your Singpass app within 20 working days after passing your vocational licence tests.
If you failed any of your TDVL/PDVL Competency Test, you will be required to schedule for a retest at a cost of $16.35 per test. You can register for your retest with Republic Polytechnic here.
